Interview

When and how did you get your start in marketing?

Business management—Marketing was my chosen field in college (GO PACK! đŸș), and after graduation, I immediately immersed myself in print marketing for B2B publications within the furniture industry. That quickly transitioned to email as a “new channel” for the business, and I have been managing email (in some capacity) at every position ever since.

 

What’s a mistake you’ve made at work, and how did you deal with it, or what did you learn from it?

As an email marketer, you’re going to make a mistake/misstep at some point—during one particular occasion

I accidentally sent an offer to our WHOLE LIST, and not a curated segment, as planned. Once I caught it, it was too late to put the genie back in the jar
the send was out there. We swallowed the bounce possibilities, and the possible negative impact to deliverability, and LUCKILY it didn’t have the negative impact we thought it would. In fact, that send at that time ended up being very profitable and helped to re-engage customers at a time they were “looking for deals”. Net positively, we now look at trying things like this around big sales holidays (ie Labor Day, BF/CM, etc), while tracking deliverability issues very closely.

 

What challenges was your team experiencing before Iterable? How has Iterable helped address these challenges? 

Data integrity and usability have been a huge problem/concern for us in the past. We have an old-school customer backend and database system, so finding the right partner to ensure that our data was not only pristine but also actionable for our customers was crucial—and that’s where Iterable came in!

 

What led you to choose Iterable over others in the market?

Customer support—After a negative experience with our last ESP, we were looking for a true partner. The top-tier support from Iterable’s Sales, CSM, and Deliverability teams has proven we found one.

 

As a consumer, what brings you joy from a brand’s outreach/communication?

I love to feel known/seen by the brands that I hold in high regard and use often. When my trending purchases with them consist of a certain group of things and something new that aligns with those favorites, I want to hear about it in a curated way so that it feels like a friend suggesting a “like product” and not just a business selling me something.

 

Besides Iterable, what are the other tools in your marketing toolkit that you can’t live without?

Asana—Our Project Management platform has been a game changer for tracking tasks/creatives/deadlines for my team. I would highly recommend them!

 

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Something I heard recently that has really been resonating with me is, “think of your energy like it’s an expensive ‘luxury item’. Not everyone can afford it.” – T.Swift ❀
