Interview
What brings you joy in your role?
Honestly, what really lights me up about growth marketing is the freedom and excitement it brings. I love how I get to dive into this mix of freedom and uncertainty every day. Being a data nerd, I lean on the numbers to guide me, but I also get a kick out of testing new, sometimes wild ideas. It’s like a constant adventure where we’re always learning and evolving.
How do you stay inspired or motivated in your work?
Two key factors truly keep me motivated in my current role. Firstly, I’m lucky to be surrounded by a bunch of brilliant minds. Working alongside such a talented team keeps me on my toes and pushes me to be better every day. Secondly, chatting with our customers is like hitting the refresh button for my motivation. Hearing their stories and insights not only keeps me grounded in why I do what I do but also sparks new ideas and approaches that I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise. It’s a real boost knowing that what I’m doing is making a difference to them.
What tips, tricks, or pieces of advice would give a new Iterable user?
For any new Iterable user, I’d recommend diving deep into understanding your customers and becoming almost obsessive about their journey. Take the time to comprehend the various use cases that led them to your platform initially. Identifying these patterns will be crucial in shaping a robust lifecycle journey that guides your customers towards achieving their goals with your product or service. Additionally, pay close attention to the pivotal “A-HA” moments within your platform. These insights will not only inform your setup but also refine your strategies to enhance user experience and engagement.
What challenges was your team experiencing before Iterable? How has Iterable helped address these challenges?
Before adopting Iterable, our team grappled with the challenge of effectively reaching our audience with targeted messaging at the opportune moments. With a plethora of products and services available to our customers, navigating through the multitude of use cases presented a significant hurdle. However, since integrating Iterable into our workflow, we’ve witnessed a transformative shift. We’ve honed in on how to best provide personalized solutions to our customers’ needs. Iterable has truly become an indispensable asset, empowering our team to deliver these insights with exceptional efficiency.
What do you think will be the next big thing in the marketing industry (AI, automation, new channels?)
As a marketer, I often think about how AI will shake up SEO and the paid search scene. Right now, companies shell out billions to Google for driving website traffic through specific search terms. However, you can ask ChatGPT the same thing and get a more detailed answer, all in one place. It’ll be interesting to see if AI platforms start distributing information in favor of the highest bidders.
How do you stay up–to–date with the latest trends and developments in marketing?
I like to keep my inbox clutter-free, so I’m selective about the newsletters I subscribe to. Two favorites are Kyle Poyar and Lenny’s Newsletter—they always deliver insightful updates. Another resource I’ve found incredibly valuable is Reforge, which has been my go-to for growth courses. I’m looking forward to diving deeper into their content more this year.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.”
What’s one thing that can instantly make your day better?
Exercise!
