Interview

When and how did you get your start in marketing?

Early on in my career, I interviewed for an entry-level marketing role at an iconic New Zealand company with someone I sensed would invest in my growth. So although the role itself didn’t initially excite me, I really wanted to work for the company and future boss. A few months into the role, I discovered my passion for marketing and feel lucky to have found my niche in this field.

What is a common misconception about your role?

In a previous workplace, marketing was affectionately referred to as the “arts and crafts” or “coloring-in department”. Now working in a growth marketing function, we’ve sought to change this misconception that marketing is simply a cost center and is actually a key revenue driver.

What tips, tricks, or pieces of advice would give a new Iterable user?

The onboarding process was awesome – make the most of that by coming prepared with questions to ask, and having tried setting things up so you can ask for help with specific things you’re working on.

What challenges was your team experiencing before Iterable? How has Iterable helped address these challenges?

We are an app-based company, but most of our communications were via email. Iterable has enabled us to implement much more robust workflows for automating multi-channel communications.

As a consumer, what brings you joy from a brand’s outreach/communication?

Knowing what I’m actually interested in and sending useful info at the right time instead of blowing up my inbox daily.

Besides Iterable, what are the other tools in your marketing toolkit that you can’t live without?

Not strictly a marketing tool, Looker (our front end BI tool). Being able to pull my own reports without having to put in requests for reports massively increases my ability to problem solve and analyze campaign performance.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t let perfection be the enemy of progress.

What is one goal you’d like to achieve in your lifetime?

Bring change to workplace culture that encourages us to be our authentic selves and communicate openly, remembering that we’re all humans first and employees second.
